The importance of freedom of the mass media to ensure integrity of elections in accordance with international standards comes primarily because of its connection to democracy, and its role in building the modern state based on preserving the individual’s rights and freedoms. The issue relates also to the relationship between elections, which are the mechanism and image - in which democracy is embodied - and Freedom of the media in elections and the role of the media in ensuring the integrity of elections in light of international standards whether binding or indicative, codified by the international civil society institutions, or the product of the internal experiences in countries that took the lead in practicing democracy.
